![]() This inverts the usual associations by connecting stereotypical wild animals, such as bears, with a domestic life and a stereotypical domestic animal, such as a dog, with a wild life. The Three Bears on the other hand are given many anthropomorphic characteristics by living a domestic life in a house, wearing clothes, and speaking proper English. Goldilocks as a dog is stripped of her once human attributes. The size of the character is exaggerated, and also her boldness makes the character seem much more salient than the three bears. As we can see from the cover, pictured above, Goldilocks is the most notable figure. ![]() Palazzo’s version offers a striking twist to the classic tale in that the character of Goldilocks is portrayed by a shaggy, golden dog, instead of a young lady. This 1959 construction of Goldilocks and the Three Bears, retold by Tony Palazzo, deviates widely from the original tale first told by Robert Southey in England in1837. ![]() Three brown bears are visible in the background. The illustration on this book cover depicts Goldilocks as a shaggy, golden dog in the foreground. ![]()

![]() ![]() ![]() In 1762 both On the Social Contract (his most famous work) and Emile (Rousseau called it one of his three principal works) were published. Rousseau’s literary breakthrough came in 1750 with the publication of his winning entry in an essay competition organized by the Academy of Dijon on the theme, “Whether the progress of the sciences and of letters has tended to corrupt or to elevate morals?” In his response, Rousseau challenged the Enlightenment with a spirited return to the Greeks and Romans: “What will become of virtue if riches are to be acquired at any cost? The politicians of the ancient world spoke constantly of morals and virtue ours speak of nothing but commerce and money.” This was a clarion call that would lead to Romanticism. There at the age of sixteen he met Françoise-Louise de Warens, a woman who would become his benefactor and mistress, and under whose influence he would (temporarily) become a Catholic. Rousseau eventually left Geneva in 1728, fleeing to adjoining Savoy. No other philosopher’s biography is perhaps as well-known as that of Jean-Jacques Rousseau (1712-1778), who made his own life the subject of a number of his writings, including his great autobiographical work, the Confessions. Born in Calvinist Geneva, Rousseau was raised by his father, a clockmaker, who cared for learning and had Rousseau read classical Greek and Roman literature. ![]() ![]() ![]() This involves a brief review of traditional avant-gardes, 20th century engaged art, and recent political-art movements. 3, 2016: 10-44 The article examines the concept of contemporary community as commoning, at the intersection of action, performance or participatory art, place, site-specific, and (post)digital poetry. The analysis will have two main focuses: one will examine the link between translation and the contrarian turn of comparative literature and the second one will read the minoritizing model of translation through the anarchist antirepresentationalist ethic and aesthetic, in order to illustrate their convergence as alternative, radical lines of thought. ![]() I argue that the translation paradigm and the non-vanguardist anarchist aesthetic are stemming from the same legacy of freedom, both formulating their basic ethical, political and aesthetical assumptions in the context of the crisis of representation, and both encountering the same practical and theoretical difficulties. The paper aims at discussing translation as a political and ethical paradigm, as proposed by Bogdan Ghiu and Lawrence Venuti, in the broader context of comparative literature's contrarian turn with the Bernheimer and the Saussy reports, as well as in conjunction with anarchism's minor literary tradition (in the deleuzian sense). ![]() ![]() ![]() Later, we learn that he throws extravagant parties.
